Overview
This interface displays information about your files, directories, and how your account uses disk space. It helps you manage your disk space quota by showing the files and directories that use large amounts of hard disk space.
Important: If you receive the Write failed: disk quota exceeded warning, your account has used the maximum amount of disk space allowed by your quota. You will not be able to save files because there is no disk space remaining.
Please contact our customer support team if you would like to request a higher disk usage quota.
The backup process for an account that is close to or over its quota may fail because the system cannot write the necessary files, such as a database lock file.
Disk Usage
This interface displays the following disk space usage summaries:
- Files in your home directory.
- Files in hidden subdirectories.
- Mailing lists managed by Mailman.
- Files that are not contained in your home directory.
Accessing File Manager
Click any of the listed directories to open the relevant subdirectory in the File Manager interface (cPanel » Home » Files » File Manager).
Note: The File Manager interface (cPanel » Home » Files » File Manager) does not display disk usage information for individual files contained in the initial directory.
There may be discrepancies between the data shown in File Manager and the data shown in this interface:
New accounts may use the same UID as accounts that were previously terminated or deleted. In this case, the new account takes ownership of the previous account’s files, which may make the account appear to be over its quota.
Most files take up slightly more disk space than their actual size. For example, a 300-byte file may take up 4 KB of actual disk space.
The disk space usage information does not show how much space the directory itself uses. Directories themselves usually take up a negligible amount of disk space.
The system includes the MySQL® database size and PostgreSQL® database size when calculating an account’s disk usage. However, the system does not enforce the account’s disk space quota limit if a database size causes the account to exceed that limit. For more information, read the quota modification documentation.
The figures displayed in this interface may not reflect the most recent changes to your account’s disk space.
