How to Import an Existing WordPress Site?

BasicsWordPress Hosting

For more experienced users, FTP might be the first option that comes to mind. You would create a backup of your files and database from the previous location, then use FTP to restore the files and PHPMyAdmin to restore the database. A detailed guide on how to do this can be found here. Fortunately, there is an easier and more efficient solution for WordPress.

Using the All-in-One WP Migration Plugin

Here’s a step-by-step guide to using the All-in-One WP Migration plugin:

  1. Install the All-in-One WP Migration plugin on your existing site under Extensions
  2. After installing and activating the plugin, you will see a new menu item called All-in-One WP Migration under Tools on the left, click on it and select the Export option
  3. Click on Export To and then select File
  4. Click on the Download button to download the export file
  5. On your new pre-installed WordPress page, install the same plugin and click on Import
  6. Select Import from and then click on File, just like you did for the export
  7. Select the previously downloaded file and click Proceed
  8. Once the import is complete, click Finish
  9. Congratulations! You have successfully imported your existing WordPress site
