Setting Up a Mail Client in cPanel

cPanel Webhosting

The Mail Client Setup interface allows you to configure an email client to access an email address associated with a specific domain. This setup enables you to access your email through an app on your computer or mobile device (such as Apple® Mail), rather than via a webmail URL. Access the setup page by following these steps:

Log into cPanelEmail Accounts → In the row of the created mailbox, click the Connect Devices button.

Prerequisites for Setup

  • A registered domain added to cPanel.
  • A created mailbox.
  • A selected email client on your device (such as Thunderbird, Gmail, or Outlook).

Exchange ActiveSync

If you want to set up calendars, contacts, and emails simultaneously on an Android device using Exchange ActiveSync, use these parameters:

  • Username: Full email address
  • ActiveSync: mail.yourdomainname.uk

Manual Mailbox Setup in a Client

Use the following settings to manually configure your mailbox:

  • Username: Your full email address.
  • Incoming/Outgoing Server Name: mail.yourdomain.uk.

The ports provided use SSL/TLS settings for secure connections. However, non-secure ports are also available, though they are not recommended:

  • IMAP: 143
  • POP3: 110
  • SMTP: 25

You also have the option to send these settings to your own email address (you can enter any email address in this panel; it doesn’t have to be the domain email address you’re setting up in the client, as the email with settings will be sent automatically to the address you specify). You’ll find this panel under the table with parameters, labeled Email Instructions. After entering the email address, click the Send button.

Mail Client Automatic Configuration Scripts

cPanel offers automatic configuration scripts for common mail clients, including:

  • iOS for iPhone/iPad/iPod and MacOS® Mail.app®
  • Windows Live Mail®

You’ll find the scripts at the top of the setup interface, available for download by clicking on the options in the Protocols column. Follow these steps for installation:

1. Locate your mail client under the Mail Client Automatic Configuration Scripts section in the Application area.

Note: if your mail client is not listed, you will need to configure it manually.

2. Select the script for your mail client from the Protocols list next to it. For example, to set up Windows Live Mail® with IMAP over SSL/TLS, click IMAP over SSL/TLS in the Windows Live Mail® row. A new window with instructions will appear.

Important: We strongly recommend using the Secure SSL/TLS setting for increased security.

3. Review the system instructions and click Next to continue. The system will then attempt to download the script.

Important: Clicking Next triggers the automatic download of the configuration script. If you have disabled automatic downloads in your browser, you’ll need to enable it to proceed.

4. Run the automatic configuration script. You can do this in two ways:

  • If your browser prompts you to open, run, or save the script, choose Run or Open to continue.
  • If your browser does not prompt you, locate the script in your computer’s Downloads folder and run it.

5. The system may ask if you’re sure you want to install the script. Choose Continue or Yes to proceed with the installation.

6. You may be prompted to enter your email account password. Enter the password and click Install.

Note: Enter your email account password, not your computer’s password.

7. Once the process is complete, your mail client will open and log you into your email account.
